Creating a Culture of Ownership Program

In today’s marketplace, creating a work culture that encourages ownership is more important than ever. When a leader fails to do this, team members disengage and do only what’s necessary to get by. This results in lost time and productivity, and it can result in good performers walking out the door.

My Creating a Culture of Ownership program facilitates learning and the application of skills that are essential to a leader’s ability to build a culture of success. This training is ideal for those in leadership positions who are ready to build upon their existing skills towards advanced responsibilities in the future. Upon completion, leaders will have the tools they need to drive performance and increase top talent retention.

Program Topics

For each of the following, I will share research-based information, and engage participants in self-reflection, self-assessment exercises, practical-application activities, and commitments to action.

Laying the Groundwork:

Leading with Impact: A Foundation for Ownership (3 Hours)

This foundational session will help you understand your DISC style and how it impacts your leadership. You’ll explore your natural tendencies, strengths, and challenges. We’ll start by identifying the areas where you want to develop as a leader and create an action plan to help you achieve that development. We’ll review different leadership approaches and how to choose the right approach for any situation. And we’ll go over the essential elements of a culture of ownership while discussing how it can positively impact your career, the performance of your team, and retention. By the end of this session, you’ll have a clear understanding of your leadership role and how to leverage it to start fostering a culture of ownership in your team.

4-Session Skill-Building:

Fostering Trust (3 Hours)

Trust is an essential building block in creating a culture of ownership. We’ll start by assessing the barriers to fostering trust and identifying action steps to break through those barriers. We’ll also examine the role of trust in how you lead, the culture of your team, and how a healthy environment of trust can lead to peak performance. We’ll leverage your DISC profile results to build more effective working relationships based on trust both within your team and across the organization. By the end of this session, you’ll have a clear plan for progress with this foundational skill.

Coaching to Optimize Performance (3 Hours)

A leader’s success depends on their ability to apply a coaching mindset to working through challenges and opportunities with their team. This session demonstrates an approach to helping team members become more self-reliant, more engaged, and more willing to commit themselves to taking ownership in their work. You’ll learn how to provide actionable feedback and targeted support that develops team members and encourages their initiative.

The Art of Effective Delegation (3 Hours)

Successful leaders are effective at delegating work and doing it in a way that empowers team members to take accountability for delivery. But there’s a fine line between delegating and "dumping." In this session, we’ll review an approach to delegation that establishes expectations while encouraging team members to take initiative in achieving outcomes. You’ll learn how to identify who’s ready for more accountability using a collaborative process that allows team members to retain a sense of ownership in their work.

Managing Conflict (3 Hours)

Unresolved conflict erodes trust, diminishes morale, and hinders a culture of ownership. This session focuses on those communication and negotiation skills critical to minimizing team dysfunction that could contribute to conflict, resulting in a more positive and productive culture. You'll learn to proactively identify and address potential conflict situations, fostering open and honest communication while guiding team members towards collaborative solutions.
